Conditions we can remove

Cryopen® cryotherapy is ideal for treating skin tags, warts, age spots, sun spots, liver spots, verrucae and many more benign skin lesions. Below are the conditions we most commonly treat at Curo Pharmacy.

Warts

Common warts on hands, fingers, and other parts of the body — including stubborn warts that haven't responded to over-the-counter treatments.

Verrucas (Plantar Warts)

Painful warts on the soles of the feet, often picked up at swimming pools or in changing rooms. Targeted cryotherapy reaches deeper than most home treatments.

Skin Tags

Small soft growths that commonly appear on the neck, armpits, eyelids, and other areas where skin folds. Quick to remove and rarely require multiple sessions.

Age Spots, Sun Spots & Liver Spots

Flat brown patches caused by sun exposure — most commonly on the face, hands, and shoulders. Known by several names (age spots, sun spots, liver spots) but all refer to the same harmless pigmented lesion.

Milia

Small white bumps that typically appear around the eyes, cheeks, and nose. Often mistaken for whiteheads but actually keratin-filled cysts beneath the skin.

Cherry Angiomas

Small, bright-red bumps caused by clusters of dilated blood vessels. Most commonly found on the chest, back, and upper arms in adults over 30.

We do not treat suspicious or undiagnosed skin lesions. If a mole has changed colour, shape, size, started to bleed, or you're unsure what a lesion is, please see your GP first. We will always refer suspicious lesions for proper assessment before any cosmetic treatment.
How it works

  • Multiple lesions in one visit
Step 3

3. You heal

The treated tissue falls away naturally over the following days to weeks, leaving healthier skin behind.

How Cryopen® cryotherapy works

Cryopen® is a precision medical device that delivers a fine jet of pressurised nitrous oxide directly onto the lesion. The intense cold — around −89°C — destroys the abnormal cells without damaging the surrounding healthy skin.

Treatment is targeted to the millimetre, so the area of skin affected is minimal. After the procedure, the treated lesion typically darkens, may form a small blister or scab, and then falls away over the following one to three weeks — leaving healthy skin behind.

Cryopen® is a CE-marked medical device used by aesthetic clinics, dermatologists, and pharmacies across the UK. Treatments are quick, walk-in friendly, and don't require any anaesthesia.

The benefits of Cryopen treatment with us

Fast appointments

Most treatments are completed in 5–30 seconds per lesion, with the whole appointment usually under 20 minutes.

Pinpoint precision

The Cryopen® applicator targets the lesion only — surrounding skin is left untouched, which minimises the risk of damage.

Minimal discomfort

Most patients describe only a brief stinging sensation. No injections, no anaesthesia, and no recovery time required.

No GP referral

Walk in or book directly. We assess and treat in the same visit — no waiting weeks for an NHS appointment.

Qualified pharmacist

Every treatment is carried out by a GPhC-registered pharmacist with specific Cryopen® training. Safe, professional, accountable.

Suitable for all skin types

Cryopen® is safe to use on a wide range of skin tones and types, with low risk of pigmentation changes when applied correctly.

What to expect when you book

From walking through the door to leaving, the whole process is usually completed in under 20 minutes.

Arrival & consultation

You'll be welcomed into our private consultation room. We'll talk through the lesions you'd like treated and check there are no contraindications.

Assessment

Your pharmacist will examine the area to confirm the lesion is suitable for treatment. Anything that looks suspicious will be referred to your GP.

Treatment

The Cryopen® is applied directly to each lesion for a few seconds. You'll feel a brief stinging sensation while the area is being frozen.

Aftercare

We'll give you clear written aftercare guidance. The treated lesion typically darkens, scabs, and falls away over the following 1–3 weeks.

Common questions

What is Cryopen and how does it work?
Cryopen® is a precision cryotherapy device that uses pressurised nitrous oxide to freeze unwanted skin lesions. The intense cold destroys the abnormal tissue, which then falls away over the following 1–3 weeks, leaving healthy skin behind.
Does the treatment hurt?
Most patients describe a brief stinging or pinching sensation for a few seconds while the lesion is being treated. No anaesthesia is needed, and the discomfort settles quickly once the treatment is complete.
How many sessions will I need?
Many small lesions resolve in a single session. Larger or more stubborn lesions — particularly verrucas, plantar warts and deep-rooted growths — may need two or three sessions spaced 2–4 weeks apart. Your pharmacist will give you an honest estimate at your consultation.
Will there be any scarring?
Scarring is uncommon because Cryopen® is highly targeted — only the lesion itself is treated. Some patients may experience temporary changes in skin pigmentation in the treated area, which usually resolve over a few months.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can book directly with us or walk in during opening hours. We will, however, ask you a few clinical questions and examine the lesion before treating. Any lesion that looks suspicious will be referred to your GP rather than treated cosmetically.
Can children have the treatment?
Yes — children with verrucas or warts can often be treated, though it depends on the child's age and their ability to remain still during the brief procedure. A parent or guardian must accompany the child and provide consent. Please call us to discuss before booking.
What does the treated area look like afterwards?
Immediately after treatment, the area may appear pink, slightly swollen, or develop a small blister. Over the following days, the treated lesion will typically darken and form a scab before falling away naturally. Full healing usually takes 1–3 weeks. Detailed written aftercare is provided.
Is Cryopen safe?
Yes. Cryopen® is a CE-marked medical device used widely across the UK by dermatology and aesthetic clinics. At Curo Pharmacy, every treatment is carried out by a GPhC-registered pharmacist trained in its use, with thorough pre-treatment assessment and written aftercare.
