Why a proper travel consultation matters

Travel health is more than just ‘tick the vaccine box’. Different countries pose different risks. Different travellers have different needs. Our travel clinic starts with a detailed risk assessment based on your itinerary (where, when, how long, what activities), your medical history, and the latest country-specific health intelligence from sources like NaTHNaC and Public Health England.

From there we recommend a personalised vaccination and prevention plan — including standard travel vaccines (typhoid, hepatitis A, etc.), specialist vaccines (yellow fever, rabies, Japanese encephalitis), malaria prevention, and traveller's diarrhoea kits where appropriate.

Common questions

When should I book my travel consultation?
Ideally 6-8 weeks before travel. Some vaccines (like rabies pre-exposure) need a 3-4 week course. But we can still help with shorter timelines — even last-minute travel benefits from at least some protection.
Which vaccines do I actually need?
That depends entirely on where you're going, what you'll be doing, where you'll be staying, and how long you'll be there. Our risk assessment uses up-to-date sources to recommend a personalised plan. Some vaccines are required (e.g. yellow fever for certain countries); others are strongly recommended; some are optional.
What about malaria?
Malaria prevention involves both medication (where appropriate for the destination) and bite-avoidance measures. We'll prescribe antimalarials where indicated and discuss the practical side of staying bite-free.
How much will it all cost?
Total cost depends on what vaccines and medications you need. We'll give you an itemised breakdown at the consultation so there are no surprises. Please call 01254 660473 for indicative pricing.
Do you provide yellow fever certificates?
Yes — Curo Pharmacy is registered as a Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre. We provide the official International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP) which is required for entry to several countries.
