Effective acne treatment without long waits

Acne is one of the most common skin conditions, affecting up to 80% of people at some point. Most cases respond well to OTC treatments, but moderate or persistent acne often needs prescription-strength help. Waiting weeks for a GP appointment can be frustrating — and damaging to confidence.

Our pharmacist will assess your skin, review what you've already tried, and where clinically appropriate provide a tailored treatment plan including topical and (in some cases) oral prescription treatments.

Who is this service for?

We can help with mild-to-moderate acne in most cases. Severe or atypical acne is best managed by a dermatologist via your GP.

  • Mild-to-moderate inflammatory or comedonal acne
  • Patients who have tried OTC products without success
  • Topical treatment options (creams, gels, lotions)

Not suitable for

  • Severe nodulo-cystic acne — requires dermatologist referral
  • Acne already managed by your GP/dermatologist (please continue with them)
  • Pregnancy or planning pregnancy (some treatments not suitable)
  • Children under 12
  • Patients with red-flag symptoms or complex medical needs — we will refer to GP

Common questions

What treatments can you prescribe?
Options include topical retinoids, topical antibiotics, benzoyl peroxide combinations, and in some cases oral antibiotics. Treatment is matched to your skin type, acne severity, and what you've already tried.
How long until I see results?
Most acne treatments take 6-12 weeks to show meaningful improvement. We'll set realistic expectations at the consultation and review your progress at follow-up.
What about isotretinoin (Roaccutane)?
Isotretinoin is a powerful treatment requiring dermatologist oversight and monthly blood tests — not something a community pharmacy provides. We can refer you to your GP for consideration if appropriate.
Will treatment make my skin worse first?
Some treatments cause an initial flare or dryness in the first 2-4 weeks before improvement starts. We'll explain what to expect so you're not caught out.
Do I need to come in person or can it be done online?
In-person consultation is preferable so we can properly assess your skin. Call us to discuss options.
